Tuesday August 4, 2015

Most days, I stay at home.

What I'm doing is what's called a magical practice, or exercise.

Calling an activity magical uses a word to distinguish it from other kinds of actions. What is the nature of the distinction?

To some extent what I am doing is called magical by people who wish to deride it.

In movies, in story books, the magician ... let's see ... wears a robe embroidered with symbols ... does things with potions, I'm not sure what ... waves a wand, while saying magical words ... and, poof, the broom sweeps the house by itself.

An end has been achieved. The house is swept. Normally, this would be accomplished by picking up the broom and sweeping, or by having someone do that. The magician accomplishes it by wearing the robe, doing something with the potions, waving the wand while saying the magical words.

The magical is here distinguished from ... the normal.
